Many of my friends and family are teachers. I know they put their time and their money into making their classrooms welcome and inviting to both students and parents alike. However, in most districts, funds for education are cut every year, and every year we ask our teachers to dig into their own pockets more and more. Due to the fact that pretty much 99% of teachers are doing this, Staples and Katy Perry have teamed up to inspire us to help classrooms in need by making a donation in Staples stores or online.

The Staples for Students campaign has included school supply drives, support for teachers in classrooms, donations for education projects, classroom initiatives such as Designed by Students, and the sale of products that give back to communities and classrooms in need. The PSA you just watched highlights DonorsChoose.org – a charity that has funded more than 700,000 classroom projects for teachers and has positively affected more than 18 million students across the country — and who Staples is working with hand in hand.

The most exciting part of this though is that through September 10, fans who spend $25 or more in any Staples store will receive a unique entry code on their receipt to enter the sweepstakes online at StaplesForStudents.com. One grand prize winner will win a $50,000 scholarship plus a trip for two to Los Angeles to meet superstar, Katy Perry. Four first prize winners and one guest each will also win air travel to Los Angeles, two nights stay and spending money to meet Katy Perry at the VIP Winners Celebration. Now, if any of you win, I'd love to go as your guest (I kid, I kid.)

Since I think this is such a great cause, I have arranged for one of my lucky readers to win a $50 Staples gift card and a $75 DonorsChoose.org gift card for you to use on any project of your choosing! Click the link below to enter:

Teachers need all the help they can get and it’s a shame that they have to spend so much of their own money to make their classrooms welcoming. I’m so excited that Staples is helping teachers and students. Way to go, Staples! Great giveaway too!

  3. Janet W.

I entered the sweepstakes, too. This is a fantastic giveaway. I’d love to give this Staples Giftcard to my grandson’s teacher during teacher appreciation week so she can use it to buy supplies and materials for her students.

  4. Paula Schuck

I LOVE this! Schools need all the help they can get, especially in the States. I’m so glad that Staples is doing its part to give back

I think teachers can use all the help they can get! We have a list to buy each year before school starts and we are happy to do it! GREAT idea here! I hope this catches on with more companies!

  6. I was a teacher for several years in a very poor community. I would end up buying the majority of the supplies for my entire class, every year. My daughter is a HUGE Katy Perry fan, and it so happens that I need to go to Staples. Here’s to hopping we win the sweepstakes.

I love that Staples is giving back like this. I am always more likely to shop at places that give back and support the communities they are in.

Staples has always been my favorite store ever since I was just a kid and I understand why now. This is awesome.

What an awesome initiative! Every teacher that I know puts their own money into bettering their classroom and opportunities for “their” kids – love this.

  10. Sara-Jayne

I wish they had this initiative in the UK – I can’t even begin to think how much I spent on my classes – it’s ridiculous! I know I spent at least £200 in the first month of teaching on supplies and decor for my class of 34.

It’s definitely important to help classrooms that need supplies. I like that Staples will be working with Donors Choose.

Staples for Students campaign sounds like an amazing thing for teachers and students.
