Keeping Your Kids Safe On The Internet With Torch

Tracking PixelAs parents, the internet is a scary place.  I can say that with the kids (ages 11 and 8).  They don’t understand all the danger that is out there.  I mean, I cringe at some of my behavior when I was in college, and I should have known better!  That was in the days of Telnet (have I aged myself at all there?), and I think the Internet was safer those days.  As a blogger, I have been asked by my kids’ school to come and talk to them about Internet safety.  I also know that we have all seen the videos on FB and other places where kids do dumb things after being told time and time again from their parents not to meet people they meet on the Internet.  That is why I was excited to hear about Torch!

Torch is a router with simple parental tools like content filtering, time keeping (limiting usage during certain times) and reporting (what your kids are doing and where)!  This is exactly what I want for my kids. I’m beyond excited for my kids to see this screen when they try to sneak their electronics after bedtime!

Torch wants to empower parents to encourage their kids to explore the Internet safely and become good digital citizens.  Keeping your kids completely off the Internet doesn’t allow them to learn how to use it both correctly and safely.  Nowadays, my kids have to use the Internet at times to get their homework done!  With Torch, kids explore the Internet in a safe way that you don’t have to worry about.  There is no incognito mode or erasing history on the router, because yes, kids can get crafty on that one!  On top of building a physical product, Torch is building an online community that encourages discussion about Internet safety and related issues, so kids and parents understand these topics and why the rules are in place. You can even sign up for their newsletter to know what’s going on with this great product!

There are just so many reasons why you, as a parent, should sign up for this.  I know I can talk till I’m blue in the face about the dangers of the internet to my kids.  However, Torch proactively allows me to monitor what is allowed in the house.  There are no subscriptions fees (I love one and done purchases) and updates will happen in the background.  Which one of Torch’s features are you most excited about?  Will you be purchasing one of these for your home?

  1. Ok I am totally in love with this! I want to get something like this so that my son doesn’t see things I don’t want him to see. I am going to check into this for christmas.

  2. What a neat concept! It’s tough to keep kids safe online in the modern world, it’s great that products like this are coming out to help parents protect their kids.

  3. This is fabulous! There are so many different ways to keep your kids safer and offline after hours but this seems like a sure fire way to get the job done! Thank you for sharing this, I will definitely be sharing with the mommas I know with kids who need extra monitoring while online.

  4. Torch router sounds amazing for any parent with younger kids. I love that it has the parental controls built right in which is awesome.

  5. So important to monitor your kids time on the internet. You can’t believe the level of curiosity especially with boys. Even if you just use it as a talking tool to discuss why they shouldn’t go to certain sites, that’s a huge start.
