The Marvelous Toy

This giveaway is now over. The winner is Carol Lawrence! Congrats!

toyI'll be honest, I had never heard off Tom Paxton before I came across the book The Marvelous Toy (aff).  Now, that I have some experience with him, I want to get my hands on everything he's done, because I am so impressed with this book.  Not only do you get an awesome book, but it also comes with a 4 song CD recorded by Tom Paxton!

The wonderfully bright colors is what first draws you into the book (at least it did for me).  Madison kept saying “mommy it's so pretty” when she checked it out.  I can't describe how awesome the illustrations in the book are.  You pretty much don't need words on the pages to tell the story.  However, the story is about a cool toy that moves and marches, bops and stops, zips and whirrs (I'm not going to give away what it is).  I guess this is a classic song (I don't remember it).  The books is short and sweet and perfect for my kids attention span.

Since my kids and I love this book so much, I have arranged for one lucky winner to get a copy of this book too!  Here's what you need to do:

To enter, tell me what your favorite toy was as a child. Did it zip?  Did it bop?  Or did it whirr?

  1. I learned that “Pictures, video, music, and sounds are used to teach children about the unique characteristics of each animal.” in this program-my kids would really have a great time with this products and can really enjoy them.

  2. My mom used to sing this song to me when I was a kid, so I would love to see the book! I loved my legos the best so I'm always happy to build with my kids now!

  3. my favorite was my rainbow bright doll. The colors were awesome and more could she zip thru the house when my brother would throw her.

  4. I had a big stuffed bear that I loved. Didn't toss him out until about 6 months ago, actually. I'm 30, and he had been with me since I was 6 months old, but he was just too dusty and musty. There was no fixing him, so out he went. Also, like Kathrine, I loved my peaches and cream Barbie.

  5. My favorite toy as a child was the pogo ball! I loved that thing! I think it bopped!
    Thanks!

  6. My favorite toy growing up was a little kitchen. It was pink and has a small fridge, sink and stove. I think I had it from the time I was 5 until I was 7 and we moved.
Funny thing is that nowdays I do NOT enjoy cooking. 😉

After we moved Books were favorite thing to have. You can move them anywhere and there are always new ones to discover.

  7. I know this post is old, but I've started my Christmas 2010 search and your review has put the book on my list. I love matchbox cars and am trying to pass that love on to the next generation. Thanks for the recommendation.
