Do you know how to create an outdoor kid-friendly movie night in your backyard? It is pretty simple if you follow these steps:
- Treats
- The scene
- Movie Set-Up
- Fan Items
We had our outdoor kid-friendly movie night with one of the biggest animated films in history, The Lion King. The Lion King roars to its rightful place in the Walt Disney Signature Collection on Digital Aug. 15th and on Blu-ray™ Aug. 29th.
Treats
First, you start with the food. We create these Lion King Grubs to eat while we watch! (You will need 8 4oz mason jars.)
Lion King Grubs
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 package of chocolate instant Jello
- 2 (aff) cups of milk for Jello
- 8 oz of cool whip or whipped topping
- 10 oreo cookies
- 16 gummy worms
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Prepare pudding according to directions.
- Crumble oreos in your food processor or place them in a baggie and pound with a hammer.
- Fill each jar half way with chocolate Jello.
- Fill almost to the top with coolwhip.
- Top with cookie crumbles and place your gummy worms in each jar.
Setting The Scene
We also had some fun in the yard with these inviting Lion King Footprints heading toward our outdoor backyard movie theater:
The fun part of these prints is that the kids can easily draw and color them themselves. You just need a sidewalk and some chalk! They could even write their names on the one they colored!
Movie Set-Up
We used aPortable pocket projectorand Tailgater speaker. We connected these to our I-Pad Pro where we had downloaded The Lion King.
Fan Items
You can enjoy some of the Lion King merchandise out there while watching like the Simba Pop! Vinyl Figure by Funko – The Lion King,Disney Lion King Jungle Friends 46×60 Woven Tapestry Throw, and Silver Buffalo LK5132 Disney Lion King Moonlight Ceramic Mugs!
Once night hit, we got to finally watch. We laughed with Timon and Pumbaa, cried with Simba and Mufasa, burst into song, and found our place in the “Circle of Life.” The Walt Disney Signature Collection release includes over three hours of classic bonus material and exclusive, brand new features inviting viewers to sing along with the film’s award-winning music, observe recording sessions, step inside the story room, witness the evolution of a villain, and join Nathan Lane (voice of Timon) and Matthew Broderick (voice of Adult Simba) for an extended conversation regarding the legacy of “The Lion King.”
How will you be watching Lion King?
