My Love/Hate Relationship With IKEA

I went to IKEA two nights ago. I have a love/hate relationship with that store. I love it, because I love a lot of the stuff there. I hate it, because I end up buying more than I went there for. I got the computer desk that I wanted. I however ended up buying shelves for the kitchen, hampers for the kids' bedrooms, and a placemat to put the George Foreman grill on. I won't even tell you how much I spent. The worse thing is that I found this bookshelf that I want:

I want the baskets too. I want to put it in the living room and put the kids toys in the baskets. I think it would take care of a lot of the clutter we have all the time. Unfortunately, that means I have a lot of rearranging of the living room to do to make it fit. I could spend an entire day at that store.

  1. I like it with the baskets.

It'd be great to organize my sons room but being as he wouldn't be able to reach anything higher than the bottom two baskets it wouldn't be practical. It'd probably fall on him and I'd be accused of reckless parenting. LOL.

  2. one thing I dislike about the store I visited is that there is one entrance, and one exit… and you have to go through the entire store (almost like a maze) and look at all the merchandise to get to the end.

  3. Hey Steve, they design the traffic flow of the Ikea stores for that very purpose – to keep you shopping. But there's actually a couple of shortcuts in there that will bypass large chunks of the store if you're in a hurry. They're just tricky to locate…

  4. I love IKEA and most of our house is outfitted in their stuff. I also love putting the stuff together, I really do. Congrats on the runner up prize for the 50 for fall contest at Nanashi-Inc’s Fifty for the Fall contest!

  5. In Malaysia, people spend the whole afternoon window shopping in Ikea and then treat themselves with those disgusting Swedish meatballs at the end. When I go, I'm the same as you – end up buying way too much stuff I don't even need.
