It is always really cool to experience your town in a different way. I’ve lived here in Chicago for about 15 years, but we don’t spend a ton of time downtown. Up to this point, I can honestly say I didn’t know many of the buildings either. Bill spends a lot of time downtown with his job. However, this architecture tour he was totally excited to take. He’s lived here his whole life so seeing his city in a different view was totally up his alley.

Shoreline Sightseeing Chicago River Tour has expert guides that share an insider’s glimpse into the buildings, architecture, and engineering that made Chicago famous as the birthplace of the skyscraper and home of modern American architecture. Nothing is more impressive than this world-renowned architecture as seen from the Chicago River!  Here are a few of the sites we saw:

I was amazed of how many movie and tv shows have been filmed here.  We saw buildingswe never even knew that were there.  Our guide was both informative and super funny too.  The only downfall our tour is that it started pouring.  However, they even take care of you when that happens.  They handed out ponchos to us all!

I highly recommend taking a Shoreline Sightseeing Chicago River Tour.  We had an amazing time (even though it rained!).  We learned a ton about the city in which we live and had a great time doing so!

  18. I went to Chicago a few times in the 90’s when I lived in South Bend and had friends there. It’s an amazing place to visit, with some great architecture and a beautiful waterfront too.

One place I used to love was Dick’s Last Resort. Not sure if it’s still there, but they used to have a live Blues band, served good BBQ food, and the decor was pretty basic/trashy with tablecloths made of sheets of paper.

The waiting staff would make fun of the customers, folding paper from the tablecloths into paper hats, or doing other funny stuff like placing old bras which were kept behind the bar on their heads . Customers would end up throwing things all around the place and it was a great party atmosphere.

The other place I really loved was the Art Gallery. I had to drive a group of colleagues from around the USA there one day when I was on a course in Chicago, well worth a visit.
