As you all know, Bill and I love everything high tech. Heck, our bathroom light/fan is also a speaker so we can listen to music! That is why I was so excited to hook up a Nest Smart Thermostat! Having had more than one programmable thermostat in house already, I can tell you that this is best one we've tried. The new 3rd generation version of the Nest is thinner, sleeker in design, and allows for a bigger, crisper display than the prior 2nd generation version.

Hooking up a Nest is easy enough that I could do it! I'm serious! We had it hooked up in around 5 minutes! It took us longer to get the box opened and take everything out than it did to hook this up! After you hook it up, connect the Nest to your Wi Fi network and download the free app from iTunes or GooglePlay. This allow you to manage your home (aff)’s temp from your smartphone, tablet or laptop (aff). You can set the Nest to accommodate your schedule and temperature preferences. However, within a week, the Nest starts programming itself. It learns your habits and adjusts automatically, regulating your home (aff)’s temperature based on your schedule – which can save you energy and money. When you're not at home (the “Away” mode), it will automatically switch to an energy-efficient temperature. In independent studies, the Nest saved an average of 10-12% on heating and 15% on cooling bills. You'll never come home to a cold house again. You can easily turn down the temp when traveling, or set it to warm up your home before you come home. Nest also provides your energy usage, tracking how much you've used and provides tips that will help you conserve. Make an energy-saving temperature adjustment and the Nest Leaf will notify you immediately! Nest also works with Nest products, such as the Nest Cam and Protect, and other home automation devices. We'll be adding some of their other products in our house!

With the Nest, you may want to look into getting the Netgear® Nighthawk™ DST Router (aff) and DST Adapter with Geek Squad included. It is brand new and exclusively at Best Buy! This router (aff) was exclusively developed between Netgear, an industry leader in the networking world, and Best Buy, to help provide consumers with an easy, all-in-one solution to support their home’s connected devices. As the number of Wi-Fi dependent products increase in a home – the average US household has 7 “connected devices” – from smart phones (often several in a home), to tablets, to laptops, to computers, and Wi-Fi printers, this puts a strain on the home’s network, especially the router. With the interest in online gaming and 4k TVs, connected devices such as smart thermostats, plus the need to stream shows from Netflix or hulu, it places even more demands on the network. Many households may experience slow Wi-Fi, dropped calls, or experience “dead zones” – which could be improved upon with an “AC” router, Wi-Fi extenders and expert help. The AC1900 comes with one DST, or “Dead Spot Terminator,” adapter – to eliminate your Wi-Fi dead zones; place it in an area where you get little/no reception, to improve Wi-Fi access. Additional adapters can be purchased for other dead zones. This high-performance router was built to support 10+ connected devices – you can also prioritize devices for streaming videos or music, and included advanced features for lag-free gaming. Best Buy makes it easy with this new high performance Wi-Fi router, which includes a Wi-Fi extender and Geek Squad Set Up and Support via phone & web, for one full year.

Again, Best Buy has outdone itself. We absolutely love our Nest Smart Thermostat. I can only recommend both of these products.

  2. Jenn @ EngineerMommy

What a great thermostat! We are actually looking to upgrade our thermostat, so I will definitely check this one out!

I really need this because I love the idea of turning up the heat before arriving home and not freezing while waiting on the thermostat to kick in and heat things up. This is a great product!

I would love to get a cool digital thermostat one day! I can’t tell you how often I’ve left home without turning up the air, so annoying!

  7. We’ve had our Nest for a while and love it. It has definitely saved us money on our cooling bills during the summer since we can keep it warmer during the day and still have it cool down before we get home.

Nest is interesting! But the most interesting part for me is saving considerable amount of money because of it! 🙂

  11. I wish we had bought a Nest, but at the time the price was a little too high for us. However, I can’t recommend a WiFi thermostat to people. Ours has saved us so much money. I just can’t believe it.

this is one product I so wish I could buy. Sadly i live in a big NYC apartment building that shares one heating/AC unit. We get 3 settings that really doesnt do much, since we are either too hot or too cold. So annoying. maybe one day we will be able to take advantage of product like this.

I really need to look into this. I bet I can save on my electric bill. I’m gonna let my husband know all about this! Thanks!

  14. Kisa Johnson

Ohh, I wish we had one of these here! We have an older thermostat and I wonder if we could even upgrade easily. I will have to probably get the landlord’s approval though.

  15. XmasDolly

Well, okay now… I’ll have to show this one to my husband and let him decipher it . I’m no good at gadgets, but if you say so we’ll check it out. Hubby likes all that kind of stuff for sure , and if it’s something to keep him occupied then I’m all for it. THANKS BUNCHES!

I have heard this is excellent! And it helps save money on the bills. This seems like a win win to me.

I love how user friendly that looks! We recently rented a house that had a digital thermostat and I lived there a year and couldn’t figure out for the life of me how to use the darn thing…this is much more my speed.
