Last week was Shakespeare’s Birthday! Did you know? Yep, April 23rd. However, I do remember being in high school when just the thought of Shakespeare would give me cold sweats. Why? Well, Shakespeare is so hard to understand. We had to read a lot of Shakespeare for English class, and I never knew what was going on in the plays. Even as an adult, I’ve seen Shakespeare on stage, and I still go “huh”.
This is where the No Fear Shakespeare line of books comes in. No Fear Shakespeare gives you the complete text of the play on the left-hand page, side-by-side with an easy-to-understand translation on the right.
Each No Fear Shakespeare contains:
- The complete text of the original play
- A line-by-line translation that puts Shakespeare into everyday language
- A complete list of characters with descriptions
- Plenty of helpful commentary
There are also marginal notes, explanations, and full descriptions of each character. I seriously want to know where these books where when I was a kid! This makes Shakespeare soooo much more understandable! If you are going to be reading Shakespeare, you have to get these books!!!!
I got that for my daughter when she was in high school.
This is great – we like books that explain Shakespeare in our homeschool because I think it’s important for the kids to learn it, but many times like you say they read it and they’re like huh?!
