Party Advice for The Holiday Guest and A Hostess Gift Guide Too!

disclosure

It is that time of year when we are all invited to tons and tons of holiday parties.  There is definitely some etiquette that needs to happen so that you aren’t the talk of the party.  Here are a few things to keep in mind while you are at your holiday parties:

  • Don’t be late.  It is incredibly rude to be late to a family party, a work party, or in general, any party.
  • Don’t forget to bring a hostess gift.  This is your way to thank your hostess.  I’ve created a small gift guide below to help you figure out what to get your hostess and to be able to get them a unique gift that will be appreciated:

  • Don’t drink too much.  You will be talk of the office or the family on Monday if you get drunk.  Plus, any behavior you do at a work event can be reported to your HR department.
  • Ask ahead of time how to dress.  Every holiday party is different.  Some require you to dress up and others are okay if you show up in jeans and a nice sweater.
  • Send a thank you note.  Your hostess didn’t have to take the time and the effort to have the party.  A thank you note is always appreciated.

What rules do you have for holiday parties?  What kind of hostess gifts do you give?

  1. A thank you note is such a wonderful idea. I’m always amazed at people who are invited to parties and don’t even bother to compliment the decor, the food or to just say thanks. I always go out of my way to take a hostess gift and to let the hosts know how much I enjoyed their party.

  2. These are great tips! My work usually just does a lunch at work, so thankfully no chance of getting sloshed there! My sister has an annual party and if someone drinks too much (rarely happens) they just crash at her place for the night.

  3. This is all very practical party advice for the holiday season! I especially love the ideas for the hostess gifts! It is so important to thank hem for all of their hard work 🙂

  4. I’m with you on the drinking bit – I don’t drink ever, so that is not an issue for me. But I get so irritated at people who gets sloshy at holiday parties!

  5. I don’t understand why some people think it’s ok to be late everywhere. What it says is that the person who waits, or in this case the host or hotesses, that their time isn’t as valuable as the late person. selfish and rude.

  6. I actually always bring food or wine for hostess gift. There is a few of these gift ideas I will have to check out for sure for my next party invite. Thanks for shairng the hostess gift ideas.

  7. Gee I don’t think I have ever been to a holiday party before or it’s been a long time that’s for sure. These are great gift ideas and tips to parties.

  8. I usually bring a bottle of wine as a hostess gift. These are really nice ideas that anyone would love to receive I am sure!
