It is important that everyone has a comfortable and safe place to live after they retire. Those who have health problems may need someone to keep an eye on them and ensure that their basic needs are met. While not everyone needs to be watched on a regular basis, a ride to doctor's appointments or a friendly phone call reminding a resident to take a medication can be helpful.
Not Everyone Has Family Or Friends Available
A residential facility is a great place to be if you don't have any family or friends to watch out for you. Even if you are still relatively independent, you can't assume that nothing will go wrong. You never know when a freak accident or a sudden health issue renders you incapable of taking care of yourself temporarily. Those who don't have a lot of friends left should be in a senior facility because it is a great place to meet other people your own age.
It May Be Less Expensive To Live In A Senior Facility
Instead of having to pay a mortgage, deal with a car payment and pay your own utilities, you may want to pay one flat fee to live in a facility. If you cannot drive anymore, it makes no sense to pay for a car as well as car insurance. You also have to worry about paying for food and other expenses if you live on your own that may be taken care of for you.
Parents Don't Have To Burden Their Children In Old Age
Parents who don't want to bother their adult children in their old age can avoid that by living in a senior facility if they are unable to live in their own home (aff) or apartment. For adults these days, raising their own family while working one or more jobs can be too much to handle on its own.
Living in a senior facility offers older folks many advantages. Therefore, older folks and their families should consider the pros and cons of living in a retirement village. In many ways, it allows the elderly to live the best years of their lives with dignity and respect.
(Where are you retiring?) My husband & I plan on retiring right here in our own home. The kids are all already grown and gone now, so it’s been our time now.
