Rock Symphonies

My music definitely skews to the rock side. Included in my favorite bands are Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, and Marilyn Manson. I’ll be honest — I was a little worried when I was asked to review Rock Symphonies. How would a classical violinist compare?

David Garrett (on top of being very good looking) is an awesome violinist.  He was named the best selling new classical artist of 2009, and I can see why.  I am impressed.  He was able to take songs like Walk This Way and Smells Like Teen Spirit and make them his own without compromising the integrity of the originals.  I couldn’t help but sing with it (especially with Smells Like Teen Spirit).  Who would have thought you could make Master Of Puppets classical?  Not I.  I can definitely see why he has a huge fan base — after listening to Rock Symphonies, he has a new fan in me!  This album debuted at #2 on the Billboard Classical Crossover chart (second to Sting at #1) and is still holding in this position.  That being said, if you are a rock fan, this is a CD you must have.
