A sweatshirt might not sound particularly summery, but when the sun goes down and you’re still sitting outside the pub, or heading out for a dusk walk, you’ll need an extra layer. Summer sweatshirts and jumpers are fun, cosy and stylish essentials and if you follow some simple rules, you’ll be able to carry off your knitwear look with panache.
Firstly, a sweatshirt doesn’t have to be bulky to keep you warm. Whether you go for standard knitwear or something in a blended fabric like a fleecy jumper, you can still have good shape and fit. Warmth doesn’t have to be about size, so always look out for jumpers that have been designed with both style and warmth in mind and go well with chinos for men and womens chinos. A simple look at the fabric and the way the garment has been made will show you whether it will keep you warm without turning you into the Michelin Man.
Secondly, good quality sweatshirts do not have to cost the earth. In fact, if you go to the right shops, you can get fantastic quality sweaters and jumpers at really affordable prices – less than £20 if you know where to look. And because fashion retail is so competitive at the moment, you’re bound to find some great deals out there that help your money to go even further. Look for retailers who are offering multi-buy deals, or a buy-one-get-one-half-price offer. Sales are common even into the spring and summer seasons, so keep your eyes peeled for a bargain.
And finally, choose something you’re going to enjoy wearing. Our summers are notoriously unpredictable, so whilst there are lots of beautiful summer clothes in-store, you may find you’re dressing for the rain and cooler temperatures even at the height of the summer months. With this in mind, look for colours that reflect summer trends, but in knitwear that’s going to keep you warm if you need it. Blending practicality and style, make the right choices now and they’ll see you well into next autumn/winter styles.
With new stock hitting the stores already, this is a great time to check out what’s new in the sweatshirt aisle so that you are ahead of the game when the full season starts. With lots of bright colours and great looks, as well as cool accessories and great style advice, you should find it pretty easy to buy sweatshirts or knitwear that are affordable and will look great all season.

I get cold so easily so I always have something like a sweatshirt to cover me up.
Love tees and sweatshirts all year round!
I live in Oregon, and we wear sweatshirts year round. It’s never very hot here, thank goodness.
Lol — yeah, sweatshirts don’t really work well here in Texas.

I always like to have a comfy yet light sweatshirt available for spring and summer nights.
Thanks for the tips
I don’t wear sweatshirts.. EVER. I don’t like feeling bulky and constricted and will even wear t-shirts in the winter!
We’ve moved closer to the coast and it’s much colder here. I’ll definitely be needing my sweatshirts this summer.
Sweatshirts are great for the boat too.
