Let me start off by saying that I live in Illinois now. However, I use to live in Wisconsin when I grew up and I have many friends that still live there. This is how I got wind of this store I’m going to share with you all. I‘m literally picking up my jaw from the floor, because is this was my elected official, we’ll I can’t publish what I’d say to him!!!!
Last week, Wisconsin got some more snow dumped on them. My mom in Green Bay told me they had 5-6 inches. My friend Julie lives in Luxemburg, WI, so they had at least that much snow. Their schools were on a 2 hour delay. That normally happens because the roads are crappy and the city needs time to get the plows out.
I’m going to start with the letter Julie wrote to her trustee when after the two hour delay, the road THAT THE SCHOOL IS ON was not plowed. We aren’t talking her home. We are talking about a road that a school is on where many parents would be dropping off their children. I also have to say that I thought Julie’s letter was a nicely written letter. It is something you bring up to your trustee, so that things like this get taken care of. She wrote the letter to the superintendent of the school who then forwarded her letter on to their local government officials in Luxemburg. Here’s Julie’s letter:
Good morning. I am contacting you in concern to the condition of the road that the Primary School is located on. My husband and I drive our kids to school each day so that they do not have to get on the bus so early and appreciated the 2 hour delay today to get the roads cleared for traffic and safety. I was absolutely surprised and disappointed when I came into Luxemburg and noticed that the road the school is on had not been touched by a plow. I drop my son off at the Intermediate school and the drop off lot was cleared and the entrance and exit of the parking lot was also cleared. I understand that there is going to be some standing water due to the slush. I also understand that some of the side roads in the district may not have been plowed and cleared, but the road that the school is on? I do not know whose responsibility it is to make sure these roads are cleared but would expect that after a 2 hour delay, this would have been taken care of. The condition of the lot was awful as well. My girls had to step through about a foot of slush that was not cleared in the drop off lane in order to get onto the sidewalk into school.
Please understand that I did not expect the roads to be perfectly clear or the lot to be clean and dry, but the condition it was in was unacceptable and the fact that a plow had not even been down the road was incomprehensible to us, especially after a 2 hour delay.
This is the response she got (and be ready to pick your jaw off the floor):
My Name is Josh Salentine, I am a trustee for the Village and received a copy of your letter that you had written to Mr Saunders.
It is up to my Superintendent of Streets to call the county in to plow our village streets. He also happens to be a bus driver for LC as well. I will NEVER second guess him or his opinion whether to get them plowed or not.
Quite frankly I really don’t care that you find my streets “unacceptable” or that it was “incomprehensible” that my streets were not cleaned to your liking.
Its Wisconsin, Its April, Sometimes it snows.
Am I supposed to run my snow removal budget in the red and have to ask my retired constituents who live on a fixed income that we have to raise taxes because Julie Witt and her husband were “disappointed” that EVEN after a two hour delay the streets were not plowed? It was slush that morning not glare ice. Get over it.
Sincerely
Josh Salentine
Trustee, Village of Luxemburg
Wow, right? Unfortunately, I don’t live in Wisconsin anymore so I can’t vote this jerk out of office. Completely unprofessional and uncalled for if you ask me. Julie doesn’t even want anything from this except for maybe the road the school on to be plowed. I don’t think that’s asking for a lot since she does pay taxes that pay for that!
What are your thoughts????
Julie needs to write letters to the editors of as many local papers as she can find, and enclose a copy of this response. People need to know what a complete jerk this guy is and vote him out of office.
Yeah, so it snows in Wisconsin. Guess what, it snows in New Hampshire, too; we got dumped on A LOT this past winter. Yet the city I live in has managed to find the money to pay for all of the necessary plowing, including that of streets and sidewalks and parking lots of schools. We liven a few blocks away from a middle school, it’s where we go to vote, and when we’ve driven past it after a storm, everything has been immaculately plowed. Our city even has these little sidewalk plows that they send out to do the most traveled streets and sidewalks. And nobody has said a single word about raising taxes to pay for snow removal.
And keep in mind that we are in a state that has no state income or sales tax, most of the money is raised by property and business taxes, as well as restaurant and hotel taxes (tourism is big business here). If we can find the money for snow removal without creating more taxes, so can this clown.
That is outrageous. I left a comment.
I am still picking up my mouth. The kicker is that she wrote her letter on Wednesday. His response came on Friday so it wasn’t just like the man had a bad day.
Heather R. Schuyler liked this on Facebook.
Wow just wow. I can see some potential legitimate points but they are a lost because of the unprofessional and immature attitude of the response. Disgusting really
Wow, just wow. I would also send that the newspaper and see him dance around that.

That is REALLY messed up…we don’t deal with snow here, but during hurricane season, school is never in session when we’re expecting a big storm!

Yikes! That should be sent to the newspaper.
I am flabbergasted. I would not only send a copy to newspapers, but also to the local news stations. Unacceptable behavior!
What I can’t believe is the unprofessional tone of the letter! I am with you jaw dropping!!
Wow! I am a little speechless!
OMG! I cannot believe the gall this person had..

That letter is unacceptable and I cannot believer someone would write it, let alone an elected official. Is he serious? How hard is it to write something like: we do not have the budget and understand your concern but cannot make changes. Did he need to be such jerk?
As I read Josh’s (I won’t even offer him the dignity of “Mr. Salentine”) response… I read it with the Village of Chicago Ridge trustees in mind. And… I am happy to say that this only makes me happier that Sally Durkin was elected to the Village Board… and Grove and Sanouris are out!!!!
Josh’s “tone” is completely unacceptable as a whole, but when you factor in the nature of how he has to “win” his job and “keep” his job… well… I guess he is happy to let someone else do his job shortly. If you’re still paying for snow removal in April, that means you’re not paying for landscaping costs… not busting your budget!
Ridiculous!!
Wow. What a jerk.

@ Bruce Sallan — Josh Salentine is a part-time village trustee, who hopefully will be serving his last term. While he does get a meeting stipened for his service on the Luxemburg Village Board, he doesn’t get any benefits. I, however, am a full-time, SALARIED municipal employee. I am lucky to have decent pay and excellent benefits, but it’s a thankless job because of misguided people like you who continue to lump all government employees together. There is no excuse for Josh Salentine’s response to his constituent, and I hope there will be some recourse for his behavior, which certainly can’t be blamed on his “guaranteed pension or ridiculous benefits!”
WOW! His response was pretty rude and inappropriate. Shame on him.
That is completely ridiculous. Seriously. He could have just not responded, that was totally uncalled for.
Wow. I can’t believe that.
That trustee’s attitude is what’s wrong with people today. If he doesn’t care, who’s supposed to?! The fact that not only is he unprofessional but rude and SNOTTY is the worst! WTH. I live in Illinois and grew up in Wisconsin too. I thought the one thing folks in WI had over IL folks is how friendly they are. Geez. That letter should be reprinted everywhere until the trustee apologizes and resigns.
WOW! Talk about snide and contemptuous, WOW! And yes, you DO go into the red for the safety of children, and I’m sure those retired constituents who are grandparents would AGREE. Is he being paid? I think it’s time to fire someone and free up some money for snow plowing funds. What is his twitter? I want to make a little noise.
He’s elected!
That is a totally despicable letter.
It disgusts me to think that he would ever send a letter to one of his constituents, a parent, and someone who wrote a very respectful letter to him asking a legitimate question.
I would demand that he lose his job now, by any means possible and not wait for him to be voted out. Also making sure that both letters were published in all the media possible so that every resident living within the Village knows that he doesn’t care about his constituents. Then he can “get over it!”
Wow! That response was so incredibly inappropriate and unprofessional.

I echo others… see to a copy of his letter is sent to all media outlets. His tone was very disrespectful. Not acceptable in my opinion.
He needs to be a High School teacher. Students would definitely put him in his place with that kind personality! 🙂
Oh I would have been mad at tha tresponse. Very uncalled for.
Wow, just wow!
Wow, that’s awful!
This is crazy.
I’m so sorry she had to deal with that – horrible!
