I am always looking for great books for my kids to read. I love a kids book with a great story. It is even better if they can learn something. I See the Sun in China fits that bill.
The story is about a young girl traveling from a small town in China to the city of Shanghai to spend time with her aunt. It depicts the many choices available in China today, and the drive to be successful in a modern world. The story provides a unique introduction to the culture, family life, and the language of China in a way that is age-appropriate. Your kids will recognize the similarities as well as the differences between their own culture and the culture of modern China. The cool thing is that this book is written in both English and Mandarin Chinese. I also love that the author has included more detail in the back of each book about the country including the prominent geographical and cultural aspects of the area depicted and other interesting tidbits. It definitely opens up a conversation about how we are all different, but alike too. This book was a hit in our house with both my 4 year old and my 7 year old.
With the holiday season right around the corner, the I See The Sun Series makes the perfect, affordable, thoughtful gift for any youngster (and their parents!) on your list. That is why I have arranged for one lucky reader to get a copy of their own. Here’s what you need to do:
