Did you know that gum disease is a common but serious problem in dogs? Yet brushing your dog’s teeth can prevent it! It’s estimated that 85 percent of dogs over five years of age suffer from periodontal disease. This develops when food particles and bacteria collect along the gum line. If you don’t get rid of it, it turns into tartar. Tartar will eventually inflame you dog’s gums. The inflamed gums will separate from the teeth, more pockets form, and the periodontal disease will get worse. It is a terrible cycle, and periodontal disease is irreversible.

That’s where products like Milk-Bone brushing chew’s come into play! Brushing Chews are a daily dental treat that will ultimately save you money on veterinary bills down the road by maintaining a high level of health. They are just as effective as brushing. Best of all for your dog is that they taste like a treat even though it’s cleaning like a toothbrush. The nubs and ridges act like a toothbrush. The twist bone helps to reach all the hard to reach places. Best of all, these help improve their breath too!

Make sure you head over to Walmart to learn more about the Brushing Chews and get a $1 off coupon!  There is also a quiz that will test how much you know about your dog’s teeth.  When you take the quiz, you can enter for a chance to win a Milk-Bone gift basket that includes a $250 Walmart gift card!

When’s the last time you looked at your dog’s teeth to see what shape they are in?

  1. I had NO IDEA that gum disease is a common and serious problem in dogs. We currently don’t have a dog but are considering it for the future once our son is a little older. Thank you for sharing the info!

  2. I agree that taking care of your dog’s teeth is just as important as your own. Milkbone has some great products and I love seeing they have brushing chews. We actually check out our dog’s teeth on a very regular basis.

  3. I need to get some of these for my dogs. My older dog needs her teeth cleaned at the vet. Bones have helped some and occasionally the bones will knock the tarter off. I also tried the stuff that you put in their water. I’m not sure it helped.

  4. You know, I have two dogs now, and this might be something I need to try for them. I want to do whats best for them, and I never was the one who took care of the pets when I was growing up. I will definitely pick up Milkbone when I am shopping for them next.

  5. I love our adopted dog but he’s getting on in years (almost 12!) and his teeth (and breath) are starting to show it. We’ve tried a few different foods but I hadn’t thought of a separate bone for keeping his teeth clean, I will be checking these out.

  6. Awesome post indeed. It is so important to have dental care the proper way for our fur babies. Thanks for sharing. This is an awesome giveaway too,
