Some families opt to head out to a warmer climate during spring break while other families prefer to save up their cash to travel during the summer season. If you’re someone who’s looking to plan a staycation this spring break, you’ve come to the right place. Below you will find some tips on how to plan a weekend staycation with kids during spring break.
Set the Date
Even though you’re planning a staycation for spring break, you can still get the kids excited by marking the date on the calendar and doing everything that you would normally do if you were venturing off into unknown lands.
Include the Kids
Have a family meeting where the kids are involved in helping plan what activities and events you will enjoy during your staycation. If your kids are older, have them research free and low-cost events in your community during the dates of your staycation.
Vote on Activities
Surely during your weekend staycation with kids on spring break, you won’t be able to do everything that you want to do, but you can vote on specific activities. Now that you’ve had your family meeting and compiled a list of options, vote on which ones you’ll plan to partake in during your staycation.
Create an Itinerary
Now that you’ve voted on which activities and events you’ll enjoy during your staycation with kids this spring break, create an itinerary like you would when you travel afar. Make the itinerary professional and fun at the same time so that the family feels as if you’re really on vacation.
Dress up Like Tourists
The best way to really have some fun with your staycation is to have the family dress up as if they’re tourists. Get those tourist looking clothes out and create a look that screams, “I am a tourist”, just to add some extra fun to your staycation with kids.
Shut Down Electronics
It’s vitally important that you treat your staycation with kids during spring break just like you would any vacation. Shut down all electronics, except the ones you’ll use to capture photos. Do not reply to business emails or text messages, put all devices on do not disturb status for the weekend.
Planning a weekend staycation with kids during spring break isn’t all that difficult to do. The fun thing about planning a staycation is that you’ll learn more about your local community, meet new neighbors and perhaps make more local friends. It’s so much fun when you can take the kids out on a weekend during spring break to enjoy what your local area has to offer for entertainment.
Thanks for the awesome tips. We love staying close to home sometimes – especially during the kids February vacation. I never know when it will snow and I like to stay close by!

Staycations can be so much fun and we always seem to find amazing sites, etc. that we’ve missed – right in our own backyard so to speak. I love all of your ideas, especially disconnecting from electronics.
If I could I would definitely do a staycation in a hotel. There are plenty of luxury hotels that I would love to check out here. Since I can’t our staycation is at home but we are having a great time. We are playing games watching movies and just having a good time.
Staycations can be super fun! These are some great tips- the disconnecting from electronics is a huge one as well- so important.
Great tips. We never really participated in our own school’s spring break, because we live in a tourist town where when it was spring break, we stayed home. However, now that we homeschool, we take spring break whenever we want, so we take it when the town isn’t swamped with drunken college kids.
Great tips for a close by vacation. Can’t wait to go away for our spring break in April.
We are doing a staycation for my husbands birthday soon. We live in a great town and so many new places to see and do, that we haven’t taken time to do. Planning is always the key.
These are great tips. I love the idea of dressing like a tourist, complete with a camera strapped around your neck.

Spring break is indeed the best time to plan a vacation with the kids. I guess, proper planning and complete itinerary should be the first thing to do when preparing for a trip or vacation.
It’s so much fun when you come up with activities that the whole family will enjoy. I think these are great ways to do that. Coming together as a family to talk about interests and plan it all out is a great idea.
Turning off electronics is always a good idea. It helps to unplug from the world
Yes I do agree that we have to include all the members of the family on planning where and what to do on Spring break. List all the suggestions and vote on it so it’s a mutual decision.
