Tow Truck Scam

If you live in Illinois and feel that you have been a victim of a tow truck scam, you need to contact Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's consumer fraud hotline at (800) 386-5438 or file a complaint on the attorney general's website: www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov.

What has been happening in Chicago is atrocious. Tow trucks are showing up at accident scenes and are towing the cars to their lots regardless of where the owner of the vehicle told them to take the car. Later, the owner is then billed for excessive and undisclosed charges in excess of what most tow companies charge. Victims have been charged more than $1,000 to get their cars back. Of course, these towing companies only want cash also.

A lawsuit has been filed against some of the towing companied involved in this scam. Please contact Lisa Madigan's office if you are also a victim. We must put a stop to this.
