Vanished is about a Middle School girl, Neela, whose prized veena disappears. She becomes mixed up in the history and the instrument's curse which allows this book to delve into the culture of India and the modern culture of Indians in America. You get a great history lesson without realizing it! This is a great book to discuss values and the issues of lying and ownership.

This is for the older reader.  The recommend ages are 8-12.  However, at seven, Madison did struggle with this a bit.  However, it is a great story with a great theme woven throughout.   The frequent twist and turns keeps you engaged and makes you feel like you are in a mystery movie!
