Welcome To Food Allergies #glutenfree #soyfree #dairyfree #peanutfree #allergictolife

You have all followed me along this journey — when I started with Nutrisystem and lost 80 lbs., then got sick last summer and gained 35 lbs back, and even when I lost those 35 lbs recently. I have talked about my health struggles and my struggle to lost weight. On a whim, I got some allergy testing done. Now, I had scratch tests done for environmentals about 12 years ago. I reacted to everything they tests. I've always made the joke that I am allergic to life because my allergy testing sure shows it. I randomly have been breaking out in contact hives, and it happened while I was at the doctor for my weigh in. We started talking about allergy testing, and my doctor decided I should get the food done and the environmental ones too. (Funny thing, we really wanted the environmentals done – we just through the food on there because they were already taking blood!) The lab missed on the order I was to get the environmental ones done, so I have to get my blood drawn yet again. However, I do have the results of my food allergies. If you follow me on my personal Facebook page, you will have seen this already. However, I know not everyone does. So here we go — these are all the foods that come up as either moderate or avoid food allergies (I'm not including the low). I am to avoid all of these things per my doctor:

  • Casein
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • Cottage Cheese
  • Cow's Milk
  • Goat's Milk
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Swiss Cheese
  • Whey
  • Egg White
  • Egg Yolk
  • Lamb
  • Barley
  • Gliadin
  • Gluten
  • Malt
  • Wheat
  • Cod
  • Halibut
  • Red Snapper
  • Salmon
  • Sole
  • Tilapia
  • Trout
  • Tuna
  • Oyster
  • Almond
  • Peanut
  • Sunflower Seed
  • Garlic
  • Kidney Bean
  • Soybean
  • Rice Protein Med Food
  • Bleu Cheese
  • Parmesan
  • Ricotta
  • Yogurt
  • Flaxseed
  • Safflower Seed
  • Spelt
  • Tricticale
  • Chili Powder
  • Mustard
  • Coconut
  • Hazelnut
  • Black Bean
  • Navy Bean

There's just a few there. It doesn't leave me a lot to eat. Sigh. I'm a bit flustered and mad and really confused on what to do. I have to go gluten free for the next 3 (aff) months and then retest to see if that fixes these allergies. It could be that my insides are just so inflamed that I am reacting to everything. However, in the meantime, it makes eating very difficult.

Feel free to comment with some brands to check out, encourage words, etc. (I have found the Enjoy Life brand.) The hard thing is that onion and garlic are in everything. The other thing we seem to be finding is that the replacement ingreidents for gluten are things that I am allergic to also. I just can't win with this one.

Also, you will find that I am going to still review foods with the gluten. I'm not the only one in my family, and well, they are my guinea pigs. 🙂 I also have some reviews scheduled for things I ate before I knew I had gluten issues (and they were delicious).

My kids don’t have any food allergies.

  2. Heather Lawrence

Holy crap that’s quite the list!
At least you know what to avoid now.
We got our son’s allergy tested because he would get this strange cough and he would scratch all down the front of his face where his sinuses are located and they came back clean. So frustrating!
I want to get my allergies tested. I know that I am allergic to dogs and horses and hazelnuts but that’s only because I reacted to all of those badly.

  3. Holly

Girl you already know I’m behind you in this one! You can so do this!

    1. Lisa

      I know! You’ve been there!

  4. Ronnie

So… you’ll live off of water?? Gosh, I can’t imagine how hard it is to be allergic on some level to that entire list. Hope the gluten free 3 week diet helps with that.

    1. Lisa

That’s what I feel like! 3 months gluten free hopefully fixes some of this!

  5. Pam

My daughter has celiac, and going gluten free fixed a lot of her food issues. Hopefully it works that way for you, too!

    1. Lisa

That’s what we are hoping! My doctor thinks I probably won’t react to everything if I can go gluten free. It just was such a shock.

  6. surely there are some things that wont bother you as much as others. We dont have allergies so I am no help sorry.

  7. Alisha Kostiuk

We were going research yesterday on GF foods. Celiac Disease has been in my family. My doctor also said it helps with behaviors in children.

  8. I wish I had some words of wisdom or advice for you. Honestly, that list kind of takes my breath away. Josh has a tree nut allergy but really, that’s nothing compared to what you are facing. Big hugs, my friend!!

  9. Sorry I can’t be more helpful but the only allergies here are my shellfish and my youngest is fresh pineapple. Have you looked into paleo or #whole30 options?

    1. Lisa

No egg which takes out a bunch of options. We already eat a pretty “clean” diet.

  10. Shauna

Oh my goodness, I could not imagine… going through all of that. Some of those foods are favorites… ugh.. so sorry you are going through this.

  11. Crystal

Oh no! I’m so sorry! I was scrolling down the list and it just kept going and going. You poor thing. I’ll scour my recipes and see if there’s anything to share.

    1. Lisa

Awww thanks! I’m hoping by putting it out there I can get some ideas 🙂

  12. Helene Cohen Bludman

Wow, what can you eat?? I am sorry you are going through this but hopefully in the end you’ll feel a lot better.

  13. Kimberly Grabinski

I know this is NO FUN for you but I hope that the gluten-free helps correct some of the issues. Good luck!

  14. Amanda Love

That’s a lot of things to not eat. I don’t know if I could do that. I love to eat. I’m allergic to certain fruits and nuts but besides that I’m ok, luckily.

  15. Arena

That’s such a long list. I’m sorry you have to go through this! I hope that the gluten free diet helps!

  16. robyn

I feel really lucky that my kids and I have no food allergies. The hubby is allergic to shellfish so he avoids that but otherwise we are smooth sailing.

  17. shari

Wow. I don’t envy you. That is a long list of allergies for sure!

  18. Nina Say

That is a huge long list, and I know you’re probably like WTF over it. But I really hope you start feeling better. I look forward to your update post where you tell us you feel like a million bucks.

  19. Lisa

Aww. That is TERRIBLE! Food allergies suck. I can’t believe what a list of no no’s you’ve got. =(

  20. Mama to 5 BLessings

We do not have food allergies in our home, my daughter has allergies to pet hair though. I know many other moms whose kids have food allergies.

  21. Melissa

Hugs! I’ sure it’s frustrating and overwhelming but luckily there are so many blogs [like yours one day!} that will help out.

  22. Nolie

WOW that is quite the list of food to avoid.

  23. Kat B.

That is a long list. All I can say is good luck. I hope your health gets better now that you know what to avoid and I know how hard it is to give up things you like. You can do this though!

  24. Stephanie

We deal with blueberries allergies. It’s not fun.

  25. Charise

This sounds so challenging! Wishing you the very best in getting some definite answers.

  26. Megan @mnmspecial

This reminds me of my husband’s food allergy list combined with mine. Good luck with food.

  27. Kathleen

Oh my goodness, you poor thing. I can’t imagine with living with a diet so restrictive. I am sure you will find a way to make it work with time!

  28. Janeane Davis

It seems so hard to manage life with food allergies. I am glad I do not have to do that for those in my family.

  29. Elizabeth O.

This list helps me live with my allergies.

  30. LaVonne

That’s a lot of food allergies. I am so sorry to hear this. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be. Keep us updated on how things are going and what foods you are finding that you love now.

  31. Liz Mays

I can’t believe how long your avoidance list is, Lisa! I sure hope the gluten-free diet helps relieve you of some of these allergies!

  32. Elisebet F

Wow, that is a huge list! I don’t envy you. We don’t have any allergies or intolerances, fortunately. My son did have issues with tomatoes until he was 2…they were just too acidic at first. My best friend was just diagnosed with lupus, and she’s switched to an Auto-Immune Paleo diet. I know that most foods that are “normal,” she can’t eat anymore, and it’s hard.

  33. Christy

Well my goodness, what can you eat??? Have you tried turmeric to get rid of inflammation?

  34. Rosey

I hope after going GF for three months that you do find that’s what was causing the problems. Good luck to you!

  35. Wow, that’s quite the list. We don’t have any allergies here at our house, but I would cry if I couldn’t eat cheese.

  36. Melissa Vera

Wow that is a lot of foods that you have to avoid. Hopefully you will get answers soon. But I will keep you in my prayers.

  37. Trisha

Oh wow, that’s a lot of stuff you need to avoid! I’m actually considering voluntarily going gluten free. Googd luck with everything!

  38. Amy Desrosiers

As a mother to a child with food allergies, I know just how stressful ti can be at times!

  39. Kristin

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! Hopefully you can figure out your triggers!

  40. Margot C

OMGosh! You poor thing. There is more to life than food though (I think). Kidding aside, my daughter is gluten free and it’s really not that big of a deal.

  41. Elizabeth Ferree

So sorry to read this. I don’t have food allergies but my oldest is allergic to turkey so I am always having to watch what is in food. Wish there were words of advice. Just stay strong and learn as much as you can. My father became a juvenile diabetic when I turned 18, it was instant and we had to learn really fast or we could kill him so I know how important it is to do your research.

  42. Danielle

When I first learned I was gluten intolerant, it was many years ago when not many people had even heard of such a thing. I swear I lived on vegetables, rice, and tofu products. If you haven’t already, I would highly recommend a naturopath. They have helped me beyond belief.

  43. Good grief! Is there anything you aren’t allergic to? It looks like you’re going to have to live off of saltines and water!Scratch that. You’re allergic to gluten. What a bummer.

  44. Summer Davis

That is quite the list and I’m SO sorry. Have you been tested for Celiac Disease? That list up there is difficult, but not impossible and you CAN do this. Check out http://brittanyangell.com She has a allergen-free website and her recipes are *EXPLETIVE* AMAZING. You can substitute flax “eggs” for eggs in any recipe. Brittany should have some great tips on her website as well as really outstanding recipes. I’ve been grain-free for three years and we did dairy free for a while too. Let me know if you need any support or recipe ideas. My youngest was diagnosed with Celiac last month so we’re back to a really strict natural and certified gluten free diet. I wish you the best!

  45. HilLesha

I’ve been meaning to get a food allergy test, because I barely can eat anything without getting miserably bloated.

  46. Lee

Wow, just wow. I hate this for you. I have few recommendations unfortunatley. Whole30 would probably be a good choice at this moment. It’s basically a plan where all you can eat are vegetables, fruit and meat. Nothing else. NOTHING.

    Lee

  47. Shell Feis

I’m so sorry, I can’t imagine how frustrating that must be! I hope you are able to adjust to your new restrictions quickly and that you start feeling better soon.

  48. Taya

I passed out at Salmon! This must be so hard for you. I mean you can’t even say, hey I’m a vegan. I hope they find something soon that can help you out.

  49. Maryann D.

My family is very allergic also. It is so frustrating. I had my son tested and he is allergic to tree nuts and everything outside. He has a lot of different symptoms.

  50. Sarah Hayes

I bet its so hard to eat out. Im sorry you have to deal with this and I hope youre able to find lots of yummy things you can enjoy

  51. Sandra Watts

I am so glad my son does not have any food allergies. It must be hard.
