What’s In A Name?

Every dog has a story, and so does every dog’s name. Just like our human babies, our fur babies all have a story that accompanies why we name them what we do! You have to watch this video about “Duck”. The film reveals the heartwarming story of how the dog in the story got his name. It also highlights the important role IAMS™ food plays in keeping dogs healthy and active throughout life with noticeably better nutrition.

I hate to admit that made me tear up. I blame it on being a mom. That stuff always gets me!  Our own little doggy (well, she’s not so little any more) has her own story too.  Meet Daisy.

Daisy has an interesting backstory.  Grandma’s dog Angel and Uncle Kyle’s dog (neither dog was fixed) got together.  Grandma didn’t even know Angel was pregnant till basically she went into labor.  The fun part of that was that she was babysitting Will for me that day after school.  Basically what that means is that we were at their house when Daisy was born!  Daisy was the runt of the litter and barely made it when she was born.  Daisy was one of many puppies.

Since the grandkids were there (my inlays brought their kids over too), they got to name all the dogs.  My kids just liked the name Daisy, so that’s how she got her name.  They also helped name all the other puppies.  However, those puppies went to other families, and Daisy is the only one who still has her original name!

Daisy has grown up with my kids. As you can see, she’s a much bigger dog now. However, she does think she’s an 80 lb lap dog!

How did you dog (or any of your pets) get their name? What’s your story?

I have seen that Duck commercial on tv a few times. It is so sweet and definitely makes me happy every time I see it.

  2. That Duck commercial is sooo cute! I’ve been seeing it a lot on television. Our dog was named before we got him at the Humane Society. We thought Toby was a cute name, so we kept it even though he was a puppy and probably would have adjusted to a new one.

  3. This is a wonderful video. I know that my oldest dog, got her name because she responded to it. Her collar had shady lady on it and when we said Katie she perked up. So it stuck. I’d share my chihuahua ‘ s story but I’m going to wait. 🙂

  4. Daisy is a kind of flower and it’s just cute to have it named for a dog. Naming dogs is like naming babies and it’s quite hard to do.

  5. Our little dog when I was growing up was thrown out in a blizzard storm. She was the runt and we saw her being tossed out of a car window. We went and got her and she lived w/us 18 years until she passed. We named her after the storm.

  6. We don’t have a dog here, but we have a few back in my home country. I can’t remember exactly where we got their names, but they all have cute names. We have one we named Trixie. 🙂

  7. Daisy grew up to become a beautiful pooch. My last dog, Oz, was chosen at the animal shelter as a puppy (named for the Wizard of Oz)…and the one before that was tossed out of a car during a blizzard and adopted us…we named her Scraps because she looked scraggly at the time…and she was pretty scrappy – lots of personality!

  8. Each of our dogs had pretty unique names, or so we thought anyway. Our terriers were named Waffles and Waffles 2. And my most favorite dog, our Australian Shepherd, was named Chewie.. short for Chewbacca.

  9. I think it is always interesting how animals get their name! I think sometimes a word or phrase said when they are puppies and they react, says it all! I love animals and always think dog find their way to us, not the other way around! They provide for a lifetime of memories!
