Don't judge a book by its cover. Anyone who was at Chicago Open Air this weekend can tell you how wrong that is. I've put together a small list of bands you must see this summer. I picked some lesser known bands, because you really need to give them a listen! Some of these you may have heard of and I've just been living under a rock.

    1. DragonforceThey were so amazing. It takes a lot to impress me and their guitar skills can't be matched. You may have heard them on Guitar Hero, but live it is a show to watch. Plus, I loved their cover of Johnny Cash's Ring Of Fire.

3. Aversed

Aversed is brand new on the scene and man, can they rock. I've watched their videos, but was blown away live. They have the perfect mix of singing and the metal “scream”. Most everybody walked away impressed by their set Sunday morning.

4. Falling in Reverse

Loving #fallinginreverse #chicagoopenair

The lead singer of this band is so animated for that alone makes it worth watching them! They also have some great music too.

5. For We Are Many

They literally won a contest to earn their stage spot. Again, brand new band that sounds amazing.

6. Black Map

Another band that rocked our socks.

7. Crobot

#crobot is up now #chicagoopenair

This is a band Bill loves now.

8. Kyng

They absolutely blew us away.

9. Rob Zombie

#robzombie did not disappoint. Weurd but amazing show

If you have never seen his stage show, run and go by tickets. I know, he's not a new band but WOW. That's all I can say.

10. Godsmack

Another not new band, but they knocked our socks off. They haven't had a new album in a while, but after watching them, I'll be first in line!

Seriously, there were so many great bands there. It was hard to come up with this list! You really could see all sorts of metal from all the different eras. What bands would you like to see?

It sounds like there’s a good conglomerate of people at this Chicago open air musical night. I’ve never heard of this open near concept but it’s a really good idea. You get to know people that you may never have heard of otherwise. I always like those kind of experiences.

  2. Alli Smith

I don’t think I’ve heard of any of these bands. I guess I’m living under a rock too. I’ll have to take a listen because I love music.

  3. Christy Maurer

I’ve heard of a couple of these bands. It looks like Chicago has a ton of great opportunities for music lovers.

Chicago is such a mecca for music fest. I’ve never heard of or been to Chicago Open Air but I love how you highlight a few of the lesser known bands who got the chance to participate in a festival with metal rockers like Godsmack AND Rob Zombie.

  5. Doria

Wow, you’ve just opened me up to a whole new group of bands I’ve never heard of but now I need to listen to! Chicago has such a great music scene.

Sounds like so many amazing bands coming to Chicago this year. I’ll have to check to see if any of them are playing near me.

  7. Joline

We love discovering and watching bands before they explode and become uber famous! This looks like a fun time.

  8. Jenn

I have never heard of the first eight on your list. I’ve seen Rob Zombie live and felt he was over rated, maybe he has improved since then, it was a long time a go. I love Godsmack.

We use to go to the Chicago open air all the time. Now we have moved even farther away and we really miss hearing all the different music that is played every year.

Outdoor concerts are the best…if it doesn’t rain…lol. Looks like it was a great show.

I’m not much of a music listener – but my husband is all about music and concerts. I’m surprised him and his buddies have not yet made a trip to see these bands.

  12. Pam

I have heard of Rob Zombie and Falling In Reverse, but not the other artists. Sounds like a cool time!

  13. My Teen Guide

I have not heard of these bands before, maybe because I rarely have time to sit and listen to music. I am very interested in the band Dragonforce. My husband and I have great admiration for talented guitar players!

  14. Rose Cottrill

My husband would love to see any of these. I am not much of a rock music because of my migraine but I can handle soft rock.
