I’ll be honest, I am a picky movie watcher. I am usually a person who watches the stuff my kids like (Frozen) and I like action flicks too. I like a good comedy too. However, I didn’t know if I was going to like The Hundred-Foot Journey. For those of you who haven’t seen the previews for The Hundred-Foot Journey, here’s a quick synopsis:

In “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is a culinary ingĂ©nue with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch. Displaced from their native India, the Kadam family, led by Papa (Om Puri), settles in the quaint village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France. Filled with charm, it is both picturesque and elegant – the ideal place to settle down and open an Indian restaurant, Maison Mumbai. That is, until the chilly chef proprietress of Le Saule Pleureur, a Michelin-starred, classical French restaurant run by Madame Mallory (Academy Award®-winner Helen Mirren) gets wind of it. Her icy protests against the new Indian restaurant a hundred feet from her own escalate into a heated battle between the two establishments until Hassan’s passion for French haute cuisine — and for Madame Mallory’s enchanting sous chef, Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon) — combine with his mysteriously-delicious talent to weave magic between their two cultures and imbue Saint-Antonin with the flavors of life that even Madame Mallory cannot ignore. At first Madame Mallory’s culinary rival, she eventually recognizes Hassan’s gift as a chef and takes him under her wing.  â€śThe Hundred-Foot Journey” abounds with flavors that burst across the tongue. A stimulating triumph over exile, blossoming with passion and heart, it is a portrayal of two worlds colliding and one young man’s drive to find the comfort of home, in every pot, wherever he may be.

Okay, maybe that wasn’t so quick.  However, I do have 10 reasons why you need to go see this film!

  1. The Hundred-Foot Journey is based on a book.  However, you don’t need to read the book to follow this story.  (I actually read the book after I saw the movie, and I actually liked the movie better.  I never say that!)
  2. The story is so good that you are always pulling for Kadam family.  They never seemed to catch a break.
  3. Not only is it a story about family, it is a love story.
  4. The food in this movie is amazing.  You will walk out of the theater hungry.  (Be warned!)
  5. You won’t look at food the same way again.  Food is memories.  It can take you back to the best times of your life.
  6. The actors in this films are absolutely amazing.
  7. You will laugh.  You may cry.  You know it’s a good movie when you go through a whole range of emotions.
  8. Oprah Winfrey & Steven Spielberg are producers on this film.  Everything they both do usually turns to gold.  They don’t create bad things.
  9. Manish Dayal is amazing.
  10. You have to find out what “the hundred foot journey” is really referring too!

Seriously, The Hundred Foot Journey is amazing.  I totally fell in love with this movie.  I can only give it two thumbs up, and I have been telling everyone I know that they need to go see this!

  1. Thanks for the great review. I have such a limited amount of non-kid movie time that I tend to be picky too. I had seen a bit about this movie and wondered. 🙂 sounds great!

  2. Food is memories. Absolutely, 100% agree with this. I can pin point specific moments in my life that are connected to food -the tastes, the smells, how it looked, who cooked it.
