Like most of you, I feel guilty when I take out a little time for myself. I definitely don’t like spending large amounts of money on myself. That being said, if you follow me on Facebook, you will know that I’ve had some medical testing and stuff come up. I’m tired all the time and really, I just need a break. (Don’t worry too much – once I go for my follow-up visit, I will be blogging about it. I am just waiting to find out how we are treating what’s going on.) That is why I was super happy to try out Spa Space at 161 North Canal Street, Chicago, IL.
I don’t have a ton of experience at spas. However, the first thing I felt when I entered here was a sense of calm. They were so welcoming and definitely helped me step outside of what is going on in my life right now. The spa service I got to have was microdermabrasion. Let me start of by showing you a picture of me before I left. This is no makeup.
Now, I’ve had a ton of questions since I’ve had it done. First, it does take off layers of skin. I think she said it takes about 6 off. The second most question I’ve been asked is if it hurts. Absolutely not! Instead, it is a totally annoying sensation. It never hurt. They can also turn the machine down if you find it too irritating. I did not need them to do that. She actually tried it first on my hand, so I knew what to expect. I felt totally comfortable, since she looked at my face and told me exactly what my issues are (super dry skin, breakouts, etc). She gave me a few product ideas too. The only way I can describe what it feels like is that it totally feels like getting your face sandblasted, but seriously, it doesn’t hurt. The only other thing I can compare it to is when you go to the dentist and they clean your teeth for you. You can feel the brush on your teeth just like you can feel this on your face.
Here is picture #2. This is immediately after I was done. My face was slightly red, but that went away within a couple of hours. Honestly, by the time I got home, it was pretty much gone.
Let me add that I totally loved that I got to wear a spa robe. It’s the little things in life that make my happy. LOL I immediately noticed that my face was super soft (and I hate to compare it to a baby’s behind, but man, it was (and is) totally soft). It evened out my skin tone too.
This next picture I took this morning. Again, no makeup.
The softness and evening of skin tone is still there. I would totally get a microdermabrasion done again!
Now, I know you are saying, but Lisa, I can’t afford to do that. To that I say, YES YOU CAN! Spa Week’s Fall 2013 Event is just around the corner! It starts October 14th – October 20th. Spa Week is a bi-annual, nationwide event. Every April and October, hundreds of spa and wellness locations across North America discount two to three full-service spa treatments to just $50 each, offering affordable access to the spa and wellness lifestyle! All you have to do is signup on the website, select your state, pick your $50 treatment, and then book your appointment! Seriously, it is that easy and you deserve it!
Let me tell you, this review – it is a tough job, but someone has to cover all of the amazing, pampering spa services consumers can get for just $50 each this season! What is your favorite spa treatment?
So reasonably priced. My mom did that years ago she had damaged done from when she was a child and had acne her skin looked so much better and she’d love to do it again. I’ll have to tell her about this special
SOUNDS SUPER RELAXING! I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A SPA BEFORE!
I would LOVE to celebrate Spa Week! Sounds so relaxing!
I’ve always wanted to try microdermabrasion but I’m scared of it. Your post help make me a little less scared. Guess I should just DO IT already 🙂
Don’t be scared. Seriously, it was more of an annoying sensation than anything. My skin is still so soft!!
I have done a few DIY spa treatments at home, but have never been to a dedicated facility. I thought they were pricey!
I could totally use a spa day today!
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I need to get myself into the spa for some pampering. Since my 2nd child was born, I’ve really been letting myself go and I feel like a wreck. I need to look into what I can get for $50!
I tell my husband all the time that I need to set aside a day for me to go to the spa. I think I am going to grab the girls and do it!
Sounds amazing… love spa days, yet haven’t had one in so long. Your skin looks great, btw!

It sounds like your skin would be able to really breathe again. Heavenly!
I’ve had micro derm done once and loved my results! Highly recommended 🙂
I so need a micro derm — my face is a mess right now.
