While there are many reasons to have a family movie night, I wanted to share the top 4 reasons to have a family movie night so that perhaps you may just start this as your new family tradition.

More Things to Talk About

As your children get older their interests change and it may be difficult finding things to talk about. While you can listen wholeheartedly to your child, there’s something cool about having a similar topic to discuss together.

Easy Way to Bond

As you get busier in life and work, the children get older and have their own job or life; it’s hard to find ways you can bond as a family. With family movie night, it’s an easy way to bond over a movie that you all will enjoy together.

More Inside Jokes

It’s fun to have some family insides jokes so that only you and your children know what they mean. It’s a great way to encourage more laughter when you watch a comedy movie as a family and then take some of the jokes “on the road” as you interact together later on.

Relaxation Time

Everyone needs to have some relaxation time during their busy lives. Whether you opt to do a weekly or monthly family movie night, it’s something the whole family can look forward to enjoying as part of their relaxation from the busy week.

There you have it, 4 reasons to have a family movie night. This type of family tradition will inspire the positive within your house and in turn solidify the bond you have with your children. If you’re in a rut and uncertain of what movies to watch, here are some options that may work well for your family movie night; Wonder, Alice Through the Looking Glass, or any Marvel movie.

We love family movie nights! We try to add in a game or activity tied to the movie we are watching. For example we made Christmas cookies to snack on before watching THE STAR the other night. Played LEGO Dimensions Goonies level before watching the movie. Harry Potter CLUE was fun to play before watching one of the movies in those franchise. Nice to do something that has us interacting with one another as a family during a night in together rather than just sitting on the couch only watching the movie.

Definitely! We do this more in the winter than other months, but it’s a low key way to spend time with each other and maybe watch something inspirational or laugh during a time when things aren’t so funny and people are stressed.
