I want to start this post telling you to watch the new Halestorm video “Dear Daughter”.
Okay, now that we have that out of the way, let’s talk daughters. With Mother’s Day having been yesterday (my goal was to actually have this up yesterday but the backend of my blog decided to eat itself), it is a perfect time to discuss how we all connect with our daughters. As you know, my daughter Madison is now 13. She’s in the those tough years, but one of the things we do connect on is music. We spent Mother’s Day driving home from my parents up in Wisconsin (4 hour drive from where we live). While we travel, we play DJ. YouTube is amazing for this. It is fun to see what my kids like and which of my music they hate. Now, the Grammy® Award-winning hard rock band Halestorm, that hits our two thumbs up list.
I could go on and on over why we love Halestorm. Finding girls that rock is hard. Lzzy Hale makes it look easy. They are amazing — they could cover any song (and Halestorm covers a ton) and it would sound amazing. They also have a lot of great songs that are their own. I love to work out to Mayhem, but Dear Daughter is a song both mom and daughter can appreciate. I am hoping the next time they come to Chicago, I can get my daughter there! (And husband too, he’s a huge fan!)
“Dear Daughter” was inspired by the support lead singer ?Lzzy Hale received from her parents when she and younger brother Arejay decided to start a rock band as kids and their parents’ encouragement to pursue their dreams: “If it wasn’t for my parents’ support we would have never started the band as early as we did. And we probably wouldn’t have gotten to this point.” Here are a few lyrics that hit close to my heart:
Life throws you in
To the unknown
And you feel like you’re
Out there all aloneThese are words
That every girl should have a chance to hear
There will be love
There will be pain
There will be hope
There will be fear
And through it all year after year
Stand or fall I will be right here
