Welcome To Food Allergies #glutenfree #soyfree #dairyfree #peanutfree #allergictolife

You have all followed me along this journey — when I started with Nutrisystem and lost 80 lbs., then got sick last summer and gained 35 lbs back, and even when I lost those 35 lbs recently.  I have talked about my health struggles and my struggle to lost weight.  On a whim, I got some allergy testing done.  Now, I had scratch tests done for environmentals about 12 years ago.  I reacted to everything they tests.  I’ve always made the joke that I am allergic to life because my allergy testing sure shows it.  I randomly have been breaking out in contact hives, and it happened while I was at the doctor for my weigh in.  We started talking about allergy testing, and my doctor decided I should get the food done and the environmental ones too.  (Funny thing, we really wanted the environmentals done – we just through the food on there because they were already taking blood!)  The lab missed on the order I was to get the environmental ones done, so I have to get my blood drawn yet again.  However, I do have the results of my food allergies.  If you follow me on my personal Facebook page, you will have seen this already.  However, I know not everyone does.  So here we go — these are all the foods that come up as either moderate or avoid food allergies (I’m not including the low).  I am to avoid all of these things per my doctor:

  • Casein
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • Cottage Cheese
  • Cow’s Milk
  • Goat’s Milk
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Swiss Cheese
  • Whey
  • Egg White
  • Egg Yolk
  • Lamb
  • Barley
  • Gliadin
  • Gluten
  • Malt
  • Wheat
  • Cod
  • Halibut
  • Red Snapper
  • Salmon
  • Sole
  • Tilapia
  • Trout
  • Tuna
  • Oyster
  • Almond
  • Peanut
  • Sunflower Seed
  • Garlic
  • Kidney Bean
  • Soybean
  • Rice Protein Med Food
  • Bleu Cheese
  • Parmesan
  • Ricotta
  • Yogurt
  • Flaxseed
  • Safflower Seed
  • Spelt
  • Tricticale
  • Chili Powder
  • Mustard
  • Coconut
  • Hazelnut
  • Black Bean
  • Navy Bean

There’s just a few there.  It doesn’t leave me a lot to eat.  Sigh.  I’m a bit flustered and mad and really confused on what to do.  I have to go gluten free for the next 3 months and then retest to see if that fixes these allergies.  It could be that my insides are just so inflamed that I am reacting to everything.  However, in the meantime, it makes eating very difficult.

Feel free to comment with some brands to check out, encourage words, etc.  (I have found the Enjoy Life brand.)  The hard thing is that onion and garlic are in everything.  The other thing we seem to be finding is that the replacement ingreidents for gluten are things that I am allergic to also.  I just can’t win with this one.

Also, you will find that I am going to still review foods with the gluten.  I’m not the only one in my family, and well, they are my guinea pigs.  🙂  I also have some reviews scheduled for things I ate before I knew I had gluten issues (and they were delicious).

  1. Holy crap that’s quite the list!
At least you know what to avoid now.
We got our son’s allergy tested because he would get this strange cough and he would scratch all down the front of his face where his sinuses are located and they came back clean. So frustrating!
I want to get my allergies tested. I know that I am allergic to dogs and horses and hazelnuts but that’s only because I reacted to all of those badly.

  2. So… you’ll live off of water?? Gosh, I can’t imagine how hard it is to be allergic on some level to that entire list. Hope the gluten free 3 week diet helps with that.

  3. We were going research yesterday on GF foods. Celiac Disease has been in my family. My doctor also said it helps with behaviors in children.

  4. Oh my goodness, I could not imagine… going through all of that. Some of those foods are favorites… ugh.. so sorry you are going through this.

  5. Oh no! I’m so sorry! I was scrolling down the list and it just kept going and going. You poor thing. I’ll scour my recipes and see if there’s anything to share.

  6. Wow, what can you eat?? I am sorry you are going through this but hopefully in the end you’ll feel a lot better.

  7. That is a huge long list, and I know you’re probably like WTF over it. But I really hope you start feeling better. I look forward to your update post where you tell us you feel like a million bucks.

  8. That is a long list. All I can say is good luck. I hope your health gets better now that you know what to avoid and I know how hard it is to give up things you like. You can do this though!

  9. That’s a lot of food allergies. I am so sorry to hear this. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be. Keep us updated on how things are going and what foods you are finding that you love now.

  10. Wow, that is a huge list! I don’t envy you. We don’t have any allergies or intolerances, fortunately. My son did have issues with tomatoes until he was 2…they were just too acidic at first. My best friend was just diagnosed with lupus, and she’s switched to an Auto-Immune Paleo diet. I know that most foods that are “normal,” she can’t eat anymore, and it’s hard.

  11. So sorry to read this. I don’t have food allergies but my oldest is allergic to turkey so I am always having to watch what is in food. Wish there were words of advice. Just stay strong and learn as much as you can. My father became a juvenile diabetic when I turned 18, it was instant and we had to learn really fast or we could kill him so I know how important it is to do your research.

  12. When I first learned I was gluten intolerant, it was many years ago when not many people had even heard of such a thing. I swear I lived on vegetables, rice, and tofu products. If you haven’t already, I would highly recommend a naturopath. They have helped me beyond belief.

  13. That is quite the list and I’m SO sorry. Have you been tested for Celiac Disease? That list up there is difficult, but not impossible and you CAN do this. Check out http://brittanyangell.com She has a allergen-free website and her recipes are *EXPLETIVE* AMAZING. You can substitute flax “eggs” for eggs in any recipe. Brittany should have some great tips on her website as well as really outstanding recipes. I’ve been grain-free for three years and we did dairy free for a while too. Let me know if you need any support or recipe ideas. My youngest was diagnosed with Celiac last month so we’re back to a really strict natural and certified gluten free diet. I wish you the best!

  14. Wow, just wow. I hate this for you. I have few recommendations unfortunatley. Whole30 would probably be a good choice at this moment. It’s basically a plan where all you can eat are vegetables, fruit and meat. Nothing else. NOTHING.

  15. I passed out at Salmon! This must be so hard for you. I mean you can’t even say, hey I’m a vegan. I hope they find something soon that can help you out.

  16. My family is very allergic also. It is so frustrating. I had my son tested and he is allergic to tree nuts and everything outside. He has a lot of different symptoms.

  17. I bet its so hard to eat out. Im sorry you have to deal with this and I hope youre able to find lots of yummy things you can enjoy
