Must-Do Outdoor Activities With the Family
Now that the weather is warmer it is very likely that you and your family have your minds on the things that you plan to do as soon as school is out for the summer. It's time to start planning some outdoor fun and adventure. Whether you plan to do a lot of travelling or your just want to stay close to home (aff), there are plenty fun things that can keep your entire summer filled with activities and fun.
Here is a list of just some of the things you can do as a family that gets you out into nature and lets you create some great summer memories.
Take a Camping Trip
A night in the great outdoors could be just what you need. You can rent a campsite for pretty cheap, depending on what type of amenities you are looking for. If you just plan to rough it and pitch a tent you can experience camping the way they did before the RV. You could also rent a cabin. Camping is a great time for wildlife watching. cooking out over the open fire and even taking nature hikes. Teach the kids how to pick a twig for roasting marshmallows. And, depending on your choice in places to camp, don't forget to enjoy the pool.
You don't even have to leave your own backyard to have a night of camping. Set up the tent and the fire right at home (aff) and watch the stars in the sky while enjoying some fun time with the family.
Take a Local Tour
Don't have the gas money to go travelling, explore your own neighborhood. It's pretty likely there are some places you haven't visited in your own home town, so why not make it an adventure on a local level. Find out if there are any museums or art galleries. Check out the local stores. Have a picnic at the local park or enjoy a restaurant you've never been to. If you have a theater house that puts on plays you and your family can even take in some entertainment. It's very likely that if you take a moment to look around you'll find many things to do right there.
Go to the Beach
No matter where you live it's likely there's a swimming hole within a small drive, whether it's an inland lake or an ocean. Why not take the family on a fun trip to the beach for sun and sand. It's not just a great time for fun, but it's also a great way to relax. You can browse Rio beach chairs and look into getting other beach accessories before you head out. Little ones love building sand castles, so don't forget a bucket and shovel. Make sure everyone has a fitting bathing suit and maybe even some fun beach toys like a ball.
Don't forget the sunscreen either. Nothing will ruin a relaxing day at the beach quicker than a family full of lobster-red people with painful sunburns!
Take in a Ball Game
Baseball isn't called the great American pastime for nothing. Whether you go watch some kids play, check out a local softball team or take in some Major League baseball, it can be fun to get out there with kids and root for your team. While a local sand lot game will be free, major and minor league game tickets can be found at low or discounted prices if you just take some time to look into it.
Don't let summer pass you by. Take advantage of all the fun things there are to do, both close to home and on the road.
Can’t wait for the weather to look up, still raining here! I must say that the best outdoor times I’ve ever had were in my parents pool when I was younger. Nothing better than kicking back with some friends and enjoying a glass of lemonade. Another great post 🙂

I’ve recently started spending more time with the kids, or I suppose I should say they’ve started spending more time with me and I feel truly blessed. Camping and hiking is now one of our favorite things to do together. To call these activities “must-do” is so true, family time is so very important.
I am so glad that I saw this post…so timely. My sister and her granddaughter will be coming to stay for a week and I was trying to think of some things we could do that would be different and get us out of the house. DUH! was what I thought when I say the tour suggestion. We have several around here that are free and fun. We could even go to the State Park 20 minutes from here and spend the day since I don’t camp. Thanks for the ideas!
