Easy Frozen Berry Crisp Recipe

Although this post is sponsored by Welch’s® Frozen Fruits, all opinions are my own.

I am always on the lookout for great ways to incorporate more fruit in our diets, even if I have to slip them into a dessert (which everybody always loves in my house.) If said dessert has my favorite fruit in it (I would marry strawberries if I could!), even better! That is why I was so excited when I came across Welch's Frozen Fruits when I was in Jewel this weekend shopping! The kids were in one part of the store with Bill while I was in the frozen food section searching out food I needed for the week.img_4373

As you can see, it went immediately in my cart! Welch's has more than three different blends you can pick from, but in my opinion, some of the best are: Welch’s 48 oz Blueberry Fusion,Welch’s 48 oz Tropical Blend, andWelch’s 48 oz Antioxidant Blend.

All sound delicious, healthy, and loaded with vitamins, right? Best of all, eating fruit can help manage weight, improve health and prevent disease. I am a total fan of frozen fruit because I end up throwing a lot of the fresh stuff away. We always seem to never be able to eat it fast enough. I love that, according to the Food and Drug Administration, frozen fruits provide the same nutrients and health benefits as their fresh counterparts. For me, that means less waste! I may also sneak some to snack on, because well, it is delicious.

I mean how can you not want to eat that bag of yummy goodness? (To be honest, I may be snacking on some right now as I write this post.)

I am always looking for a quick, easy, and nutritious dessert for my family or when I am heading to a party and have to bring something. That is why I love this Easy Frozen Berry Crisp Recipe. Anybody, including the kids, can make it, and it will leave you asking for more when you are done (and can easily be reheated!). This is also a recipe that you will have the ingredients in your house. (I hate recipes that you have to buy stuff that you will never use again.) The hard part of this recipes is to not eat all the fruit before you use it. (We aren't going to talk about having to buy an extra bag in case that happened.)

Here are the ingredients you'll need:

  • 24 oz of Welch's Frozen Fruits Antioxidant Blend
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 2/3 cup (packed) brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick chilled unsalted butter, diced

Preheat oven to 375°F. Combine berries, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup flour and lemon juice in a bowl; and blend well.

Transfer berry mixture to a 9 x 9 glass dish (you could also use a pie pan). Combine remaining 3/4 cup flour, oats, brown sugar, spices and salt in another bowl.

img_4377

Add in the butter until topping holds together in small moist clumps. Sprinkle over berry mixture.

img_4379Bake until the berry mixture bubbles thickly and the topping is golden brown. Mine took about an hour. Let stand 15 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Absolutely delicious is all I can say. Below I've also added a printout of this recipe since I already know it'll be a favorite in your house too. Bill and the kids can't get enough of it! You can easily add ice cream or whipped cream to it too. I personally just like it this way.

I use frozen fruit in my morning smoothies. It allows me to stock up and not have the fruit go bad so rapidly. Now I need to start thinking about using them in berry crisp 🙂
